All of our exterior timber cladding is pressure treated using chemicals that are forced deep into the wood to protect it from moisture and rot, allowing it to last for years and making it as weatherproof as possible. However, wood should always be cleaned and treated regularly to prevent it from degrading.

Without ventilation, your external timbers can trap moisture and begin to rot from behind. It’s key to make sure that your external cladding boards have sufficient ventilation behind them to allow airflow and for moisture to escape. This can be as simple as some batons attached to the wall to provide a gap between the timber and the surface.

You can. In fact, brick walls make a great base for external cladding. However, it’s important to ensure secure mounting and to provide a gap between the wall and your cladding to allow for ventilation. Why not use CLS which is made for the job, or roofing battens for a cheap and cheerful solution.

Timber cladding can help prevent damp issues by providing an extra layer of thermal insulation. However, you must ensure proper ventilation around the cladding. Without it, the cladding itself can absorb moisture and act as a thermal bridge, worsening damp issues even further.
